At the clinic of one of his students, Dr.
Chujiro Hayashi, Reiki was used to treat
a young Hawaiian born Japanese
woman, Mrs. Hawayo Takata. Mrs.
Takata was very ill with gallstones, an
abdominal tumor and appendicitis.
After three weeks of treatments she felt
much better and after four months of
twice a day treatments by two
practitioners the once very ill Mrs.
Takata was completely healed from her
illnesses. Upon Mrs. Takata's complete
healing she urged and was able to
convince Dr. Hayashi to teach her the
practice and initiated a Master Teacher
in 1938. Dr. Hayashi and Mrs. Takata
were the ones responsible for bringing
Reiki to the West.
History of Reiki...
Reiki, (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle
healing practice that originated in
Japan discovered by Mikao Usui during
a spiritual retreat in the early
twentieth century. After his wonderful
discovery of both Reiki's healing
properties and spiritual development
Usui went on to both treat and teach
the practice in Japan making it his
life's work to heal other people.
This practice is called the Usui System
of Natural Healing or Usui Reiki Ryoho.
At Mrs. Takata's transition in 1980 she
had initiated 22 Reiki Master Teachers
that have since gone on to teach and
spread the Reiki practice all over the
world in only 28 years. In doing so Reiki
has become the most frequently applied
individual healing technique
throughout the world.
Dr. Chujiro Hayashi
Mrs. Hawayo Takata
I honor Mrs. Takata and am grateful to her, Dr. Hayashi and Usui sensei
for sharing this incredible healing practice with all of us. I have now
joined the ranks of a Master Teacher and am responsible for advancing
the lineage as well as to provide healing treatments, and to teach and
raise awareness of this practice.
